Numerical Simulation of Tribocorrosion of CoCr Alloy and Ti with Galvanic Coupling in Simulated Body Fluid

The artificial hip joints have galvanic couple between femoral head made of CoCr alloy and stem Ti or alloy, are subjected to high levels mechanical stress. Therefore, tribocorrosion has been frequently reported. In this study, we performed the first electrochemical numerical simulation for with friction in simulated body fluid. We constructed single metal model investigate effect cathodic reaction on behavior. model, is referred as CoCr(Tribo.). contact CoCr(Tribo.)–Ti. current density CoCr(Tribo.) was higher than that Ti(Tribo.). For friction, (CoCr(Tribo.)–Ti) (CoCr(Tribo.)). both increased increase area non-friction part increased. CoCr(Tribo.)–Ti highest, rate also highest.
